Exclusive: North Yorks stops diagnosing children over seven

North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (NYYPCT) today confirmed that they have withdrawn diagnostic assessment for children over seven with suspected ASD/Aspergers Syndrome. A spokeswoman for the Trust said:

we have worked with the Educational Psychology service to devise an arrangement whereby school staff and families can access support via education services, including parenting support, without a diagnosis.  As the role of CAMHS is about assessing and treating mental health needs we are no longer involved in this pathway, until such time as a child is confirmed as having mental health needs that need a specialist service.

More to come
